Resin Colours Explained
Resin colour is not paint. It is thousands of natural aggregate grains held in clear resin, so the finish shifts with the light and with the building it sits against.
The four families
Nearly every driveway we install falls into one of four tonal families, and each does something different to a house.
- Cool greys — Silver Grey, Steel. Clean against render and modern glazing.
- Deep neutrals — Charcoal, Graphite. Grounds a pale elevation.
- Warm honeys — Autumn Gold, Harvest. Settles beside Cumbrian sandstone.
- Mixed naturals — Rustic blends. Forgiving, traditional, hides everyday use.
Reading colour in Cumbrian light
Sample boards in a showroom lie. Our light is soft, often overcast and frequently wet, and a blend that looks mid-grey indoors can read almost blue against a wet slate roof. We always leave physical samples on site so you can see them at breakfast and at dusk.
Matching the elevation
The reliable rule: pick up a tone already present in the building — the roof, the stone, the window frames — rather than introducing a new one. A driveway should look inevitable, not decorative.
Does colour fade?
The aggregate does not fade; it is stone. Fading is a resin problem. UV stable resin holds clear; cheaper non-UV systems yellow, which is why a badly specified drive looks tired within three summers.
