What a border does
Structurally, it restrains the surface so the perimeter cannot break away. Visually, it draws a line — and a drawn line is what separates a considered frontage from a poured one.

Scale and proportion
A single sett course reads as a line; a triple course reads as a frame. Larger frontages carry the heavier detail; a compact drive is usually better with restraint.
