Low Maintenance Gardens
Low maintenance is decided in the first week of the build, not by what you buy afterwards. Most garden work is created by bad detailing.
Remove the joints
Nearly all garden weeding happens in joints between paving units. Resin bound has none. Porcelain has narrow, flexible, sealed ones. That alone removes most of the annual work.
Detail the edges properly
Every hour spent edging a lawn is an hour caused by a missing steel or aluminium restraint. Put it in at build, and lawn edging becomes a mow-over job.
Plant fewer things, better
Structural evergreens, grasses and ground cover through a mulched bed. Mass rather than mix. It looks more deliberate and takes a fraction of the time.
The annual routine
A realistic maintenance year for a Northscape scheme is one wash, one mulch and an occasional brush.
- Spring — low-pressure wash of hard surfaces
- Spring — top up mulch on beds
- Autumn — clear leaves from channels and drains
- Any time — brush windblown debris
